From November 25, 2022 through January 1, 2023, Winchester Mystery House will present daily mansion tours developed specifically for the holiday season.

Guests will guide themselves through the mansion that is famous for its dizzying floorplan and lack of formal blueprints… while in the dark and alone with just a flashlight. The Winchester Mystery House is a mansion in San Jose, California, that was once the personal residence of Sarah Winchester, the widow of firearms magnate William Wirt Winchester. The house became a tourist attraction nine months after Winchester's death in 1922. The Victorian and Gothic-style mansion is renowned for its size and its architectural curiosities and for the numerous myths and legends surrounding the structure and its former owner. Nearly 100 years after the house opened for tours, millions of guests have visited Sarah Winchester’s beautiful home. We’ve been mentioned in many “Top Destination” lists around the world.
Shortly after her husband’s death, Sarah left their home in New Haven, CT and moved out west to San Jose, CA. There, she bought an eight-room farmhouse and began what could only be described as the world’s longest home renovation, stopping only when Sarah passed on September 5, 1922. The general tours are not wheelchair accessible, but there is an ADA Tour that includes garden access. Complimentary parking is available both onsite and across the street. Winchester Mystery House™ offers complimentary parking to guests. Parking is available in the front lot, and there is overflow parking in the Santana Row garages across the street.

Turn left onto Winchester Blvd. and proceed two stoplights, and the Winchester Mystery House™ will be on your right. Take Highway 156 East and connect onto Highway 101 North. Take Mission Blvd. exit in Fremont and connect to I-880 South.

The Winchester Mystery House offers four different tours (more on each below), plus seasonal tours and scary encounters to be had. The Winchester Mystery House is located in San Jose, about an hour south of San Francisco. If you want to take in some other activities available in San Jose, you can rent a car for the trip. Otherwise, public transportation on Caltrain or BART can get you there. Caltrain will take you from San Francisco to the Santa Clara Transit Center where you can board a bus to the Winchester & Olsen stop. Walk about two minutes to reach the Winchester Mystery House.
